Our QHSSE culture

I Care! When every action counts for a safer future.

The QHSSE approach at Newrest is based on shared responsibility at all levels of the organization. The I Care program is the concrete embodiment of this commitment. Designed in-house, this program illustrates our strong desire to go beyond regulatory requirements in terms of Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environment. By involving every employee, I Care is helping to build a strong QHSSE culture, focused on quality, food safety, employee health and safety, on-track safety, security and environmental protection. Find out how I Care is being deployed in the field, transforming our daily lives in the service of safety and excellence.

To build a strong QHSSE culture, the I Care program mobilizes all employees, from the executive committee to the operational teams.

Managers are responsible for QHSSE results in the field. They play an active role in continuous improvement by regularly discussing with their teams the“Newrest Non-Negotiables“, the common base of the company’s best practices. For their part, operators take part in events dedicated to these fundamentals, thus fostering their appropriation.

This participative dynamic strengthens collective commitment and anchors a living, shared QHSSE culture.

A culture deployed worldwide

To support the integration of the I Care culture and ensure the implementation of the Group’s Integrated Management System policy, toolkits are available to employees.

They include :

Dashboards for monitoring indicators

Newrest Non Negotiables” badges (food safety, health & safety, ramp safety, rail safety) to keep with them at all times

– Observation cards to report good practices or identify discrepancies

– Gemba walks, used by managers in the field

– Root cause analysis diagrams to deal effectively with identified problems

These practical tools facilitate the adoption of best practices and reinforce collective commitment to the Group’s QHSSE requirements.

"Always ready!"

As part of its commitments, in January 2024 Newrest organized an international seminar entitled: “Being Unlimited compliant at all times”.

This event brought together QHSSE managers and operational teams from our 53 countries.

The aim: to share the foundations of a strong culture, explore its concrete implementation in the field, and recall the key role that everyone – managers and operators alike – plays in a continuous improvement approach.

This seminar also emphasized the importance of detecting, reporting and correcting any non-compliance.

Digital for QHSE

The digitization of self-inspection and process monitoring continues throughout the Group.

This includes the use of connected thermometers, which simplify the recording of control points directly in the HACCP module of our ERP system Winrest, and the adoption of the Calypso tool, which centralizes the performance of inspections, audits and the monitoring of action plans.

This digital transition actively contributes to reinforcing the efficiency, reliability and traceability of our processes.

Interview

Reinventing corporate culture through shared commitment

Fabien, why did you create the I Care program?

FM: We wanted to change the company’s culture and involve every employee in the Quality Health Safety Security and Environment (QHSSE) approach. We needed a strong identification element so that everyone could take ownership of the subject and place the IMS policy at the heart of their actions.

The idea is to develop the accountability of employees in the field. Efforts and ownership are made at all levels of the company. This is what our motto means: “I Care, You Care, We all Care! “.
This program is in line with our values and the parallels we regularly draw with sport.
